FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Stand up Paddle Boarding or SUP?
Stand up Paddle Boarding, also known as SUP, is a low impact sport that strengthens the core muscles, improves balance and coordination, and gives you a complete body workout. The sport originated in Hawaii as an offshoot of surfing. A 2013 report called it the outdoor sporting activity with the most first-time participants of any in the US that year. You can paddle on lakes, large rivers and canals, ride breaking waves, and glide along sea coasts.
Can anyone take these SUP/YOGA/FITNESS classes?
If you can balance on one foot, you can paddle. If you can breathe, you can do yoga. Our classes are accessible to all levels, and we offer modifications to ease or challenge each person. We welcome everyone, from first time yogi's, paddler's, or to the most adventurous sportster!
What do I wear and bring to class?
Please dress for weather. Suns out guns out. Just kidding. ..... HOWEVER.... proper swim attire is recommended. We recommend comfortable swimwear that you can get physical in. You will get wet and have to help carry your equipment. Having a sweatshirt on hand and dry clothes for after class can be great. Water safety shoes/sandals are also highly recommended. We can wear our shoes on the boards, or stow them. Sunscreen protection is recommended even on cloudy days. Sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hat.... bring it all. Also bring water and food for after class.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Yes. We recommend that you know how to swim. We do wear life vests, however if you fall in you must be able to tread water, swim back to your board, and climb back on.
